Biographical History
Curtis reported to the Commanding Officers' Training Camp at Fort Shepard, Ill. in Aug. 1917. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, Infantry Section, Officers' Reserve Corps in Feb. 1918, and promoted to 1st Lieutenant in Aug. 1918. In Oct. 1918 he was appointed Gas Officer at Camp Kearny, Calif. In Feb. 1919 he was transferred to the American Expeditionary Force, Siberia, and assigned to the 27th Infantry. In March 1920 he was assigned to Manila, Philippines. He was discharged in Oct. 1920 and became a 1st Lieutenant in the Regular Army. During the 1920's he was detailed to the Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, the 3rd Infantry, Fort Snelling, Minn., taught at South Dakota State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, detailed to the Infantry School, and assigned to the 29th Infantry at Fort Benning.
He attended Tank School at Fort Meade, Md. and was assigned to the 3rd Tank Co., Fort Lewis, Wash., and the 55th Quartermasters Regiment, San Antonio, Tx. during the period 1931-1936. He was promoted to Major in 1940 and Lieutenant Colonel in 1941. In Jan. 1942 he was transferred to Headquarters 3rd Army, San Antonio, Texas.
During 1943-1945 he was with the 8th Army in Southern Philippines Campaign, and from 1945-1946 at Tokyo, Japan with the Army of Occupation. He was assigned in 1947 to the Quartermaster Corps Career Records Analysis Branch, the Pentagon. He retired from the military in 1952.
