Wayne County, Indiana resident Pauline Montgomery spent most of her life as a Latin and English teacher. The Indiana University alumna was also a local historian and author of one book, Indiana coverlet weavers and their coverlets.
Wayne County, Indiana resident Pauline Montgomery (1903-1982) spent most of her life as a Latin and English teacher. She was a graduate of Indiana University and was deeply dedicated to education. Her devotion to Indiana history led her to write and publish the book titled Indiana Coverlet Weavers and Their Coverlets in 1974. Pauline Montgomery and her husband, Robert Montgomery, also founded the Upper Whitewater Historical Association in 1962, which is committed to the history the eastern counties in Indiana. At the time of her death in 1982, she had also been a 50-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Montgomery bequeathed her collection of approximately sixteen-hundred photos and negatives of Indiana tombstones and the accompanying ledger of descriptive records to the Indiana University Folklore Department. The collection was transferred to the Indiana University Folklore Department upon her death in 1982.
