Biographical History

Mapps (B. March 7, 1917) served from 1941 to 1945 during World War II with the 1st, 2nd, and 5th Cavalry Divisions.

He was a forward observer for the 272nd Field Artillery, attached to the 5th Cavalry, during the Battle for Leyte. After the war, Mapps earned an animal science degree from the University of Wisconsin, worked on several ranches, had a job a wastewater treatment plant in Iron Mountain (Michigan), and became a writer.
