Biographical History

Tasker Oddie was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 24, 1870 and came to Nevada to look after the business interests of his New York employer, the prominent and wealthy Stokes family. He became a member of the Nevada Bar in 1898 and served as district attorney for Nye County. During the Tonopah mining boom at the turn of the century he became the manager of the Tonopah Mining Company. After his term as governor, Oddie was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1920 and re-elected in 1926. He died in San Francisco on February 18, 1950.

Tasker L. Oddie (1870-1950), Nevada governor and U.S. Senator, was a native of New York. After coming to Nevada in 1898, he engaged in mining, agricultural, and livestock interests. He was instrumental in the development of the Tonopah and Goldfield mining districts. He entered politics in 1901 as a Republican, served as governor of Nevada from 1910-14, supported Theordore Roosevelt's Progressive party, and was a U.S. Senator from 1921-33.

Biography

Tasker Lowndes Oddie was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 24, 1870. He died in San Francisco on February 17, 1950. Educated in law, he was admitted to the New York Bar in 1895. In 1898 he emigrated to Nevada, where he engaged in mining, agricultural and livestock interests, and was instrumental in the development of the Tonopah and Goldfield silver and gold mining districts. Oddie entered political life early, serving as District Attorney of Nye County, Nevada, in 1901-1902, as State Senatory from 1904-1908, Governor of Nevada 1910-1914, and U.S. Senator 1921-1933. During the First World War he was active in the Nevada District Bureau of the National War Resources Board. He married Daisy Rendall in 1916.
