(1966-76), and prof. emeritus (1976-77), UCLA; Dept. of English; Fulbright prof. of American literature, Univ. of Helsinki, 1955-56; author of several books, including: American fiction in Finland (with Tauno F. Mustanoja, 1960), Down these mean streets a man must go : Raymond Chandler's knight (1963), The Negro cowboys (with Everett Jones, 1965), and The western story : fact, fiction, and myth (1975); died March 27, 1977.
