Republican State Senator from Monroe County, Michigan, 1850-1851, Michigan Supreme Court Justice, 1858-1875, U.S. Senator, 1875-1879, and U.S. Minister to Peru.

Isaac Peckham Christiancy was born near Johnstown, Fulton County, N. Y., March 12, 1812. He moved to Monroe, Michigan in 1836 where he would practice law from 1838 to 1858. During this time, he would also serve as prosecuting attorney for Monroe County 1841-1846; delegate to the National Free Soil Convention at Buffalo in 1848; Free Soil candidate for Governor in 1852; and Michigan State Senator 1850-1852. In 1856, Christiancy was elected associate judge of the Michigan Supreme Court. He was twice re-elected and served until 1875 when he was elected to the United States Senate. He served until 1879 at which time President Hayes selected him to be United States Minister to Peru. He served until 1881 when he returned to practice law in Lansing, Michigan. He died September 8, 1890.

Isaac P. Christiancy was a justice on the Michigan Supreme Court serving from 1858 to 1874 at which time he was appointed United States Senator. He resigned the next year and subsequently was appointed by President Rutherford B. Hayes to serve as Minister to Peru. He resigned this position in 1881.
