Biographical History
Biographical note: Charles Christian Cook was one of the first photographers in the United States to specialize in race photography. He began taking photographs of thoroughbred racing in the early 1900s. When racing was banned in his native Illinois, he relocated to New York. During his career he was employed as a photographer for the MORNING STAR, served as an aerial photographer during World War I, and was track photographer at Hialeah Park in Florida in 1942. Cook was actively engaged in commercial race photography at tracks in New York, Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas, Illinois, and Maryland until his retirement in 1947.
