Biographical History
Author, journalist and literary editor. Author of The Americanization of Emily, The execution of Private Slovik, The Klansmen and many other popular fiction and non-fiction books on American social history, some of which were adapted for screenplays. Huie's books and writings often dealt with controversial racial, social and political issues. He was an outspoken opponent of racial injustice in his native Alabama and authored a series of books about violence in the South during the civil rights movement of the 1960's. Much of his research involved interviews with participants in actual events and documentation of courtroom proceedings.
