Biographical History
Ugo Cavallero (b. Sept. 20, 1880, Piemonte, Italy-d. Nov. 13, 1943), Major General in the Italian Army, played a role in Italian battle tactics in World War I victories. After a short retirement, he returned to service and became the commander of the Combined Italian Forces in East Africa in 1938. He later was head of the Italian Supreme Command and commander of Italian forces in Greece in 1940. After Mussolini's government fell in August 1943, General Cavallero was arrested, set free, and re-arrested. Viewed by both Rome and Berlin as a traitor, he committed suicide later that year.
