Dr. Vasco M. Tanner (1892-1989) established the zoology and entomology department at BYU.

Dr. Vasco M. Tanner was born 29 October 1892 in Payson, Utah to John Myron and Lois Ann Stevens Tanner. He married Annie Atkin 5 June 1917 in St. George, Washington, Utah. Vasco entered Brigham Young University to pursue his bachelor's degree in 1909, then went to University of Utah to pursue his Master's degree. After receiving this degree in geology he taught at Dixie State college for three years, where he met his wife. He graduated Stanford University with a PhD in zoology and established the zoology and entomology department at BYU. He died 25 April 1989 in Provo, Utah, Utah Burial: 2 May 1989 Provo, Utah, Utah married 5 June 1917.
