Biographical History

Mabel Freeman LaFar (1879-1947) was the daughter of Jacob Elbert and Olive Newton Freeman of Savannah, Georgia. She was married to Sanford Branch LaFar and had two daughters. She died 29 August 1947 in Savannah. LaFar was a historian and served as librarian of the Lachlan McIntosh Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Savannah. She collaborated with Caroline Price Wilson and together they published in 1936, Abstracts of wills, Chatham County, Georgia (1773-1817) and in 1941 LaFar published The Baptist Church of Savannah, Georgia: history, records, and register. LaFar was a charter member of the Savannah Historical Research Association and supervised W.P.A. workers on the historical research project for a history of Chatham County, Georgia.
