Dr. Michael Hoke, son of Robert F. Hoke and Lydia Van Wyck, was a 1895 graduate of the Medical School of the University of Virginia. He began his orthopedic practice in Atlanta in 1897. He was in a partnership with Dr. Frederick G. Hodgson at 72 West Peachtree Street. Hoke cared for many patients around the state of Georgia. Most notibly Hoke was one of the founders of Scottish Rite Hospital for Children where he served as the chief surgeon from its beginning in 1915. He left Atlanta to become the chief surgeon of the Warm Springs Foundation by appointment by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Hoke returned to Atlanta in 1936 where he practiced until the end of 1937. He was married to Atlanta native, Laurie Harrison in 1904.
