Organized in 1869 as New Brunswick Microscopical Society; name changed to New Jersey Microscopical Society of the City of New Brunswick in 1871, New Jersey State Microscopical Society in 1880, and New Brunswick Scientific Society in 1914; composed of amateur science enthusiasts chiefly from the New Brunswick area and faculty and students of Rutgers College.
