American Citizens for Justice is a non-profit organization formed originally by local Asian American community organizations from the Michigan area on March 23, 1983 in response to the racially-motivated slaying of Vincent Chin in Detroit on June 19, 1982. With expanded national support, the immediate goal was "to insure justice was served in the Chin case and to prevent future injustices, to protect civil and human rights, eradicate discrimination in society by supporting Asian Americans seeking justice through the judicial system by non-violent means."
