Biographical History

Residents of Montgomery County, New York, formed the Female Evangelical Society of Montgomery in May 1822. The society was associated with the Goodwill Church, a Presbyterian congregation, and its first presidents included two pastors' wives: Harriet Whittlesey Condit (1794-1859), who served from 1822 to 1829, was the wife of Reverent Robert Wood (1795-1871); and Sarah M. Blain, who served from 1833 to 1841, was the wife of Reverend William Blain. Isabella Scott was the society's president from 1830-1832.
