Biographical History
China trader and textile company executive. Sent to China in 1857 by John L. Gardner and Company, Nichols remained in China until 1873, buying tea, cloth, straw hats, and other dry goods and shipping them back to the United States for resale. In 1876 he became treasurer of the Dwight Manufacturing Company. He also served as treasurer of the Great Falls Manufacturing Company and as president of the board of directors of the Lyman Mills and the Manchester Mills. His home was in Newton, Massachusetts and he had real estate holdings in Galveston, Texas and Kansas City, Missouri.
