Biographical History
The Oregon Mission (1834-1846) began as an effort by the Methodist Episcopal Church to convert the native Indians of the far west to Christianity.
Henry Bridgman Brewer was born July 7, 1813 in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. In response to Rev. Jason Lee's appeal for missionaries to Oregon, Brewer and his recent bride, Laura Lucretia (Giddings) Brewer, sailed to the Pacific coast on board the Lausanne in 1839-1840. The Brewers served as lay missionaries at The Dalles Mission on the Columbia River from 1840 to 1848, when they returned to Massachusetts. Henry B. Brewer died January 24, 1886 at Pelham, Massachusetts.
