Lawyer and state legislator from Lexington, Ky.
Lexington, Ky., lawyer and district attorney.
Member of the Board of Supervisors of the Louisiana State Seminary of Learning and Military Academy. He sat on the committee that wrote the annual report of the Board of Supervisors to the State Legislature.
Wickliffe, the brother of Kentucky Governor Charles A. Wickliffe, was a prominent attorney and legislator known for his advocacy of the pro- slavery cause.

Robert Wickliffe was born in Pennsylvania while his parents were en route from Nelson County, Virginia to settle in Kentucky. He read the law with George Nicholas who later became Attorney General of Kentucky. Wickliffe was elected to the state legislature from Fayette County in 1819, 1823 and 1825, and was state senator from 1825 to 1833. Wickliffe distinguished himself as one of the leaders of the "Old Court Party" and as a skillful real estate lawyer. He married Margaret Howard and, after her death, Mary Russell, the only child of Col. John Todd who was killed at the Battle of Blue Licks. Wickliffe's daughter, Margaret, married General William Preston in 1840.
