Biographical History
Couzins, lawyer and suffragist, was the first woman to earn a law degree from Washington University, St. Louis, and the first to serve as a federal marshal. She helped found the National Woman Suffrage Association in 1869, but renounced suffrage in 1897. In 1890 she was appointed one of two Missouri delegates to the Board of Lady Managers of the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893.
