Biographical History

Mary Appelhof (1936-2005) was a noted environmental educator and proponent of vermiculture (composting with worms). She was the designer of the patented Worm-a-way worm bin, targeted for small-scale, home-based composting, as well as the author of numerous educational resources on vermiculture and the environment, including Worms Eat My Garbage (1982). She was also the life partner of Mary Frances Fenton (1937-2006), former associate professor emerita of Education and Professional Development at Western Michigan University.
