Biographical History

The Texas Folklife Festival was first held in 1972 as an extension of the educational programs of the Institute of Texan Cultures museum. A major thrust of the Festival was to preserve and display the ethnic traditions and pioneer skills that had helped to form the state. The Festival features entertainment, skill demonstrations, local and ethnic food and beverages, music, and other programs. The Festival is held annually on the Institute of Texan Cultures grounds at the HemisFair Park Campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio.
