Biographical History

Sigma Gamma Epsilon, an honorary mining engineering fraternity, was founded at the University of Kansas in 1914, and the University of Nevada Pi Chapter was founded December 19, 1924, after being originally established in 1923 as Kappa Zeta. J. Claude Jones, professor in the Mackay School of Mines, was active in both the local and national fraternity, serving as grand vice-president of the western province. He served in this capacity until his death in 1932.
