Biographical History

The national Christopher Columbus Quincentenary Jubilee Commission was established by the U.S. Congress in 1985 to prepare a comprehensive program to commemorate (in 1992) the 500th anniversary of the voyages of discovery of Columbus. Members were appointed by President Ronald Reagan with the consent of the Congress. Governor Mario Cuomo was appointed to the commission by the president in 1985. By authorizing legislation, the commission was terminated in 1992; the final report was issued in 1993.
