Biographical History

John T. Wood, architect and archaeologist, built railroad stations between Smyrna and Aidin and Smyrna and Cassaba on the the Ottoman Railroad from 1858-1862. After the completion of this project, Wood spent eleven years making excavations at Ephesus (1863-1874) and discovered the site of the temple of Diana (1869).
