Biographical History

Journalist and politician. Left England for South Australia 1878, moved to W.A. 1895, journalist at Kalgoorlie, Perth and then Northam where he became owner of Northam Advertiser (1905); Mayor of Northam (1909-1912), member of Legislative Council (1912-1923) holding ministerial offices; Agent-General for W.A. (1923-1928, 1933-1939), member of Federal Senate (1928-1933); C.M.G. (1923), knighted (1927).
