Ezra Stiles (1727-1795) was an American educator, Congregationalist minister, author, theologian, and president of Yale College from 1778-1795.

Stiles was also a small-scale land speculator who purchased proprietary rights of dubious validity in unsettled areas, including the region east of Lake Champlain claimed by Col. John Henry Lydius and the northern Pennsylvania lands of the Susquehanna Company, whose claims were based on the supposition that the region belonged to Connecticut.
