The Charles Freer House became the Merrill-Palmer School in 1921. Freer was a collector of Far Eastern art. In accordance with Freer's wishes, the Freer Gallery in Washington, D.C. was opend in 1923 to house his collection. It is a branch of the Smithsonian Institution.
