Biographical History
Jakubauskas was born on April 14, 1930 in Waterbury (Conn.). He earned a B.A. (1952) and a M.A. (1954) in Economics from the University of Conn., and a Ph. D. in Economics from the University of Wis. (1965). He served in the U.S. Army, 1954-1956. Afterwards he worked as an economist for the U.S. Federal Power Commission and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, while periodically teaching Economics at Iowa State University and the University of Wis., 1958-1971. Jakubauskas worked as the Director of Iowa State Manpower Development Council, 1965-1966, and as Director of the Industrial Relations Center at Iowa State University, 1966-1971. From 1971 to 1976 he served as Dean of the College of Commerce and Industry at the University of Wyo. (UW). Jakubauskas served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at UW, 1976-1978. He served as President of the State University of N.Y.-Genesco, 1978-1988. On March 3, 1988 he was appointed as the tenth president of CMU, and was formally inaugurated on Nov. 17, 1988. During his tenure, CMU offered its first competitive scholarships and intitiated a capital fund-raising campaign. Construction began on the Dow Science Complex, the Student Activity Center, Alumni House, and the Applied Business Studies Complex, and the Combined Services Building opened. He retired in Jan. 1992.
