Sir Francis Leggatt Chantrey, English sculptor. Highly popular and prolific in his lifetime, among the many sculptures he was commisioned to produce are representations of George III, George IV, Francis Burdett, John Horne Tooke, and George Washington.

1808 first exhibition at the Royal Academy; 1809 opened studio in Pimlico; 1811 commission from the City of London for statue of George III; 1812 commission for reliefs to fallen heroes of the Napoleonic wars for St Paul's Cathedral; 1818 Royal Academician, member of the Royal Society; 1820 commission for statue of James Watt; 1828 commission for equestrian statue of Sir Thomas Munro for Madras; 1835 knighthood; 1839 commission for statue of the Duke of Wellington
