Biographical History

J. Graham Parsons was born on October 28, 1907 in New York City, New York. He received a B.A. in 1929 from Yale University, and from 1932 to 1936 he was a Private Secretary to the U.S. Ambassador to Japan. From 1936 to 1943 he was Vice Consul at the American Embassy in Cuba, the American Embassy in Manchuria, and then the American Embassy in Canada. He returned to the Washington in 1943, to work for the Department of State in the British Commonwealth Affairs Section, 1943 to 1947. From June 1947 to July 1948 he was Assistant to Myron C. Taylor, Personal Representative of the President of the United States to the Vatican. He went on to serve in the following capacities: Consul, American Embassy, New Delhi, India and Kathmandu, Nepal, 1948-1950; Assigned to the National War College, 1950-1951; Deputy Director, Office of European Regional Affairs, Department of State, 1951-1953; Deputy Chief Mission Minister, American Embassy, Tokyo, 1953-1956; Ambassador to Kingdom of Laos, Vientiane, 1956-1958; and Ambassador to Sweden, Stockholm, 1961-1967. J. Graham Parsons died on October 20, 1991.
