Biographical History

Abiel Heywood, Town Clerk of Concord from 1796 to 1834, was made a Justice of the Peace in 1797 by Governor Sumner. Dr. Heywood also served as a justice for the Middlesex County Court of Sessions until the Court of Sessions was superseded by the court of the Middlesex County Commissioners (1827), and for the Court of Common Pleas at times when the powers of the Court of Sessions were transferred to the Court of Common Pleas.
