Biographical History

The Legacy of H. S. Wall Project, established by the Educational Advancement Foundation, helps support research relating to the mathematician Hubert Stanley Wall (1902-1971). Wall received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1927. He taught pure mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) (1946-1971), where he directed the doctoral work of 66 students. Wall was a proponent of the "Moore Method," the discovery-based method of teaching developed by his colleague at UT, R. L. Moore.
