Biographical History
In 1737 George II appointed a commission to settle the boundary conflict between Massachusetts Bay and New Hampshire.
Both sides appealed the commission's decision to the King, who settled the matter in an order in council issued Apr. 9, 1740. The order affirmed the commission's determination of the eastern boundary and established the southern boundary. Belcher, then governor of both provinces, took Massachusetts' side in the controversy.
