Biographical History
Linfield College was established in 1858 in McMinnville, Oregon, the outgrowth of several earlier attempts to establish a Christian college in Oregon Territory. It was first known as The Baptist College at McMinnville, later as McMinnville College. The name was formally changed to Linfield College in 1922 in memory of a Baptist minister whose widow, Frances Ross Linfield, gave a substantial gift to the college. Six years later, Linfield was fully accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. Linfield College currently offers courses in three areas: liberal arts and sciences at the McMinnville campus; nursing and health sciences at the Portland campus; and an adult degree program.
In this public symposium, Christians of Chinese heritage gathered together in order to share stories of and enrich Chinese-American cultural interchanges. The conference was held July 14-17, 1994 at Linfield College, McMinnville, Oregon.
