Greenville and Newnan Railway Company.

The Central of Georgia Railway, formed from its predecessor, The Central Railroad and Banking Company of Georgia in 1895 was a dominant force in the economic life of Georgia and parts of Alabama through the mid-twentieth century. Through its many branch and subsidiary lines, land holding companies, and agricultural experimentation, it controlled much of the region's transportation and was a strong influence in the rural development of the area.

(Cont.) The Greenville and Newnan Railway Company was chartered by the State of Georgia in 1905. The main office of the company was located in Savannah, Georgia. According to its charter, the purpose of the company was for "constructing, equipping, and operating a railroad from Greenville, Meriwether County, Georgia to Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia." The track connected with the Central of Georgia about six miles south of Newnan. The Central of Georgia Railway Company was the principal stockholder in the company at its incoporation, and it was bought by the Central by late 1905.
