Graduate of Wilkinson High School (1945), South Carolina State College, (1949), New York University (1952), and Boston University; taught in the South Carolina public school system, at South Carolina State College, at Claflin University, at Voorhees College, and at Benedict College; first African-American woman on South Carolina Commission of Higher Education, 1973; appointed to the South Carolina Educational Television Commission, 1980; acting president of Denmark Technical College, 1985; director and editor of an African-American women's history project.
