Biographical History
Pan American Society founded (1912) for purpose of creating Pan American friendship and understanding and fostering cultural and commercial exchanges. Society honors and entertains Latin American dignitaries and students in USA. It supports educational programs in American schools, clubs, and civic organizations. San Francisco Chapter (founded 1930) has entertained President of Nicaragua and Vice Presidents of Peru and El Salvador, heads of Latin American delegations to United Nations Conference (1945). Chapter has also fostered various educational enterprises, including formation of high school Pan American clubs, donations of books on Latin America to San Francisco Public Library, and provision of scholarships to Casa Panamerica at Mills College, Oakland (Calif.).
