Burwell (Harvard, M.D., 1919) physiologist in cardiovascular diseases and teacher, was dean of the Harvard Medical School from 1935 to 1949.
Charles Sidney Burwell (1893-1967), M.D.,1919, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, was Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University (1928-1935), Dean of the Harvard Medical School (1935-1949), Research Professor of Medicine from (1949-1955), and the first Samuel A. Levine Professor of Medicine (1955-1959). He also acted as a Special Consultant to the Dean of the Harvard Medical School after his retirement in 1959 until his death in 1967. Burwell was a cardiologist specializing in circulation changes associated with heart disease.
