Biographical History

The Michigan Humanities Council sponsored a pair of traveling exhibits on a tour through six Michigan communities in 2007 and 2008. The first, "Key Ingredients: America by Food," was prepared by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibit Service (SITES) for the Museum on Main Street (MOMS) program. The second, "Michigan Foodways," was produced by the Michigan State University Museum with funding from the Michigan Humanities Council. In addition, each of the six host sites across the state was encouraged to develop local exhibits and programming to complement the touring exhibits. The exhibits were open to the public at the Keweenaw Heritage Center (the former St. Anne's Roman Catholic church) in Calumet from July 13 to August 26, 2007. Local programming included several other food-related exhibits, a speakers' series, art exhibits, and a variety of tours to food-related sites.
