Biographical History

Rapp was the adopted son of George Rapp, founder of the Harmony Society. Frederick Rapp served as the society's leader and spokesman, was a delegate to the 1816 Indiana Constitutional Convention, and was a member of the 1820 commission to locate a new state capital. The Harmony Society left Germany in 1803 and settled in Pennsylvania before moving to 20,000 acres in southwest Indiana in 1814.
