Biographical History
Richard Ely Talbot, Texas rancher and stockman, was born in Cambridge, New York on June 17, 1816. His brother, Thomas Talbot, became governor of Massachusetts in 1874. Richard Ely met and married Anna Louisa Trowbridge in St. Mary's Parish, Louisiana in 1846; they moved to Texas in 1852 and became some of the earliest settlers in the area between Georgetown and Circleville. The Talbots had six children, including Elizabeth "Libbie" (born October 4, 1847) and Anna Louisa (born November 26, 1848).
Elizabeth "Libbie" Talbot married Edwin Ruthven Anderson on March 17, 1869, after returning from the Abbot Female Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and taking a teaching position in Georgetown, Texas. Edwin, an assistant marshal, served as the enumerator for the 1870 County census. Elizabeth's sister, Anna Louisa Talbot, married Albert C. Shell in 1875.
