Biographical History
Billings was a San Francisco lawyer; partners with Archibald Peachy and H.W. Halleck, of the firm Halleck, Peachy and Billings, which specialized in cases involving land titles.
Frederick Billings went to California in 1849 and began a law practice in San Francisco. He became a director of the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1870 and was president of the Railroad from 1879 to 1881. John White Geary served as a United States Army officer in the Mexican War and the Civil War. Geary went to California in 1849 and was the first mayor of San Francisco. He was governor of Kansas, 1856-1857, and governor of Pennsylvania, 1867-1873.
