Biographical History
The American Jewish Society for Service (AJSS) was founded in 1950 by Henry Kohn (B.A., Yale College, 1939; J.D. , Yale Law School, 1942) to provide assistance to disadvantaged regions and communities throughout the United States. Each summer, high school juniors and seniors chosen from a pool of applicants have formed work camps, usually lasting seven weeks, and have performed intensive manual labor on homes, shelters, churches, parks, recreation centers, and infrastructure.
