Businessman and diplomat. Director-general of the Pan-American Exposition, Buffalo, 1901.
Native of Ohio who later lived in Indiana and Sioux City, Iowa; was head of the departments of Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock at World's Columbian Exposition (Chicago, 1893), and later Director General of the Pan-American Exposition (Buffalo, 1901). U.S. Minister to Argentina, 1894-1899, and key U.S. diplomatic agent at many Latin American congresses from 1901 to 1909. Also South American representative of New York Life Insurance Co. and Westinghouse Co., ca. 1898-1909.
