Originally a series of wartime sketches that became a book (and later, a movie), Mrs. Miniver was a phenomenenon in America, depicting the day-to-day life of an ordinary family in Britain. Jan Struther emigrated to America in 1940, and eventually resented being known exclusively for a single work.
