Family of Joseph Baily and Elizabeth Tatnall Baily, of Wilmington, Del. Joseph Baily was involved in several business concerns including an iron foundry and drugstore and served as president of the Bank of Delaware between 1810 and 1841. Their son Samuel Baily (b. 1794) was in the flour business at Stanton Mills; another son, Edward, lived from 1793 to 1843; and son Joseph Tatnall Baily (1799-1874) lived at Wheatland Farm outside Wilmington. He was a gentleman farmer who also invested in land, lent money, married Priscilla Hatton (1803-1869), and had seven children. Their sons Tatnall (b. 1823) and William P. (b. 1825) had difficulty establishing themselves in business in both New York and California. Another son, Joseph H. (b. 1834), served in the U.S. Navy during the Civil War.
