Biographical History

Horace Logan McBride (b. June 28, 1894, Madison, Neb.-d. Nov. 14, 1962) attended the University of Nebraska from 1910 to 1911, and served as battery commander in the 347th Field Artillery, American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in World War I. He was commissioned in the field artillery from West Point in 1916, served as an assistant military attaché at The Hague, then in Warsaw in 1919. From 1923 to 1927, he was a professor of military science and tactics at Yale University, and graduated from the Command and General Staff School in 1928. He served as an instructor at the Field Artillery School from June 1928 to June 1932, and served in the Philippines from 1932 to 1935. He graduated from the Army War College in 1936, and served as an instructor at the Command and General Staff School from 1936 to 1940. He served at the Panama Canal Zone from 1940 to 1942. During World War II, he served as commanding general of the 80th Infantry Division Artillery, April 1942 to March 1943; became Brigadier general in May 1942; served as commanding general of the 80th Division from 1943 to 1944; became Major general in March 1943; and he served as commanding general of the XX Corps, 1945 to 1946. His assignments after World War II included commanding general of 9th Division, 1956 to 1947; commandant of the Command and General Staff College, 1950 to 1952; and commander-in-chief of the Caribbean Command, 1953 to 1954. He retired in June 1954. He was decorated with the Distinguished Service Medal, two Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star and Commendation Ribbon.
