Biographical History
In 1946 the Lower Division of the University of Utah was merged with the School of Arts and Sciences to form the University Collge. In 1958 the name of the University College was changed to the College of Letters and Science. In 1970 the College of Letters and Science was divided into the three current colleges of Humanities, Science, and Social and Behavioral Science.
During the period covered by this collection, Sydney W. Angleman served as Dean of the Lower Division (1942-1946), Associate Dean of the University College and Director of General Education (1946-1958), and Associate Dean of the College of Letters and Science (1958-1967).
Sydney Angleman was very active in the cause of higher education. Dr. Angleman was well repected in the academic community, so much so that fellow professors labeled him "the conscience of the University."
