Biographical History
New York Times and other photographers gave reporter and author Gloria Emerson photographs while she was covering the war in Vietnam for the Times. She selected these black and white prints from her large personal collection.
Author and journalist Gloria Emerson grew up in New York City and was foreign correspondent for the New York Times. Her coverage of the Vietnam War won the George Polk Award and her book, Winners and Losers: Battles, Retreats, Gains, Losses, and Ruins from a Long War (1976), won the National Book Award. She has held teaching fellowships at Harvard and Princeton universities and is also the author of Some American Men (1985), and Gaza: A Year in the Intifada, A Personal Account from an Occupied Land (1991).
