Moores, Thomas, 1939-1957.

Thomas Moores was Member of the Legislative assembly between 1949 to 1957, and was Minister for Transport in 1957. He was born in Gympie and attended the Brisbane Industrial High School. Thomas Moores worked as a plumber in England for two years between 1935 and 1936, later returning to Brisbane to teach manual training at the West End, South Brisbane, and Dutton Park Opportunity State Schools. He was the youngest trade union leader of the Plumber's Union before becoming president of the union in the early 1930's. After serving in World War II, and continuing to be politically active as an Alderman in the Brisbane City Council in 1939, Mr Moores became the Labor Member for Kurilpa in State Parliament. In 1957, Thomas Moores received his Ministerial rank. In that same year, Mr Moores' parliamentary career ended when he resigned his post as Transport Minister, and when he was defeated in the 1957 election by the Liberal candidate. He died in 1983.
